The School's Senior Assistant addressing something during the school assembly. Notice the school badge...

I had a short stint teaching in SMK Arau, Perlis. The school was not even built yet when I was transfered to SMK Arau from SMK Syed Hassan in 1992. We had our school sessions in the afternoon, mind you..., in SK Tengku Budriah. School started at 1.30 pm and ended at 6.30 pm, but occasionally we ended up at 6.00 because most of the students came from remote areas in Ulu Pauh. They had to go back early because the last bus was at 6.15 pm..

It was not until the year 1995 that the school building was ready. Not much activities was organised during those early years..., except forming the athletics team. We did get a few gold medals though, through the boys sprint and relays in the MSSPs. I could still remember one javelin thrower who got injured during the competition. Marynda twisted her ankle during one of her throws, and couldn't walk.. So, I had to carry her from the arena to the grand stand where we assembled. Gosh... she was heavy.... he, he..

These are the few photos I could gather from my personal album...

p/s:
I did compose the school song "Bercanda Membina Minda" and it remains the official school song till today.. Not bad, eh..??

ADD MATHS..., PAPER 2.....

Just two days ago, all SPM candidates were smiling when they walked out of the examination hall at about noon... They have just answered their Mathematics 1449 Paper 2 with ease and confident..
Yes, the paper was relatively easy and candidates were enjoying the moment they step out of the hall.....
But alas!!!! Not today....Candidates were ?*%#@!!^&**.... Bewildered?? Some were seen crying!! Why?? "Susah cikgu!!", said one girl.. "Gila !!" said another.... Why the fuss??
They have just finished their Additional Mathematics Paper 2. Everybody said the paper was crazy. Mobile phones were switched on and conversations were aplenty.. Parents came to fetch their sons and daughters and the same topic was discussed on the way back home.... The Add Maths paper 2 was so difficult!!

Back home, my son asked me. "Paper 2 tadi susah ke Abah?". I asked him why? He said his juniors at KYS (Kolej Yayasan Saad) contacted him minutes ago, telling him that they found the paper tough ! Well, if students of KYS said so, I guess the paper was tough... I contacted my fellow friend in Seremban to ratify the situation and he said the same thing...

Well guys...nothing to be alarmed with... The paper was quite difficult. Let the LPM decide the standard to get A+. I think that is what my students are afraid of... Not to be able to get A+....
No comment....
Please stay focus to the next paper, next week... Biology....
Good Luck.....

15,000 JOHOREANS IN SINGAPORE PRIVATE SCHOOLS?

Is it true? Reports in a daily today says that there are about 15,000 students from Johore study in private schools in Singapore as many consider the educational system there to be more advanced and of world standard.. Is that true???
There are two ways of looking at this fact:
1. Does it mean that the local educational system is of low standard? Or.....
2. It shows that we have many high-income families in Johore that choose to send their children in Singapore.

If you choose 1, it's not fair to compare the educational standards of private schools in Singapore with our local schools. Try comparing them with our premier private school - the Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) in Malacca. Or Johoreans never heard of KYS?? Having said this, my friend Siti of Sabah, once mentioned this to me.."What KYS? Never heard of it..." , that's what she said !!!
KYS produces first class products since 10 years ago. One of them is my son, who will pursue his studies in the China University of Petroleum, Beijing, next intake. Nearly all in his batch are going overseas.... and, it's about the same story each year...
Back to the fact. Do you think the local educational system is of low standard? YES and NO.
Yes, because Science and Maths are taught in English in Singapore. In Malaysia, the government is going to revert to Bahasa Melayu... hu, hu, hu... Secondly, there's not enough of History education in Malaysia.. There are so much to learn.. but there is only 3 periods per week of History lessons. It should be made 6 periods per week!!! Yang dihormati Tun Dr Mahathir will agree with me on this!! Cikgu Omar of KYS is happy to hear this.....
No, because the Malaysian educational system is recognised as one of the best among developing countries... You don't believe me... Try going to Thailand or Indonesia (No offence to Thais and Indons...I have lots of friends there) or Cambodia... or the Phillipines....

2. If you choose 2, it's good to know that there are many rich people in Johore. But why send your children to Singapore? It's two and a half times your money that you are helping Singapore. Instead of "helping" the Singapore's economy, why not you people get together and build one good private school in Johore, say in Pagoh.... I'm sure your Education Minister can "help" you.....
You can send your children to KYS too. Don't worry, it's all in English at KYS...

I really feel sad about this issue.. It's typical of Malaysians....., always look down upon our very own product. Please change your attitude. It's going to be 2010 in a month's time... Trust ourselves and be a developed nation!!
1Malaysia !!!!
Have a nice day.......

THE MALACCA STOP OVER.

The "Eye on Malaysia", the new tourist attraction of Malacca, Malaysia....

The coastline road under construction leading to the "Eye on Malaysia", as seen from the "Eye on Malaysia" above.

I took my lunch here in Dataran Pahlawan's McDonald's....

Tourists must take a trishaw ride in Malacca to see the beautiful scenery in Bandar Hilir..

The trishaws in Malacca are decorated with bright, beautiful flowers

Once in a while, it's nice to stop over in Malacca. It's such an interesting place to pay a visit to. The state is always developing.... I was in Malacca 2 months ago and I could see some changes being made at the location where the "Eye on Malaysia" is. There is a new route under construction to this new attraction. The road is along the coastline, which is just the right place it should be.. It should be completed in a week or so...
Hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took in the short stint...

THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS......

The School Principal on the left..., The Senior Assistant on the right...

It's the "end of the year" school holidays.... Bye bye 2009..., we are having a 6 weeks off. No school work. No classes. No assembly. Students = rest and enjoy yourself at home. Teachers = prepare to mark the SPM/STPM papers this December.... Oh, oo.. it's not a holiday for me !!!

Congratulations my son, Daeng Dhadyry bin Dahasry for getting the full 5 As and pass the "Aptitude Test" in the UPSR (the year six national examination) this year.... You have made your father and mother, brothers and sisters, and all in the family really happy today and forever......
Beginning this year, the Education Ministry of Malaysia is having this "Aptitude Test" to all year 6 students in Malaysia. This IQ test is made to make sure that their UPSR examination results are genuine... This test is to classify students who are qualified to be offered places in residential and cluster schools all over Malaysia. So, son...you are qualified!!

To all UPSR candidates all over Malaysia, I would like to congratulate all of you who obtained 5 As and passed the "Aptitude Test". You have made your parents proud!! Bravo!, bravo! bravo!

GREETINGS FROM GENTING HIGHLANDS, MALAYSIA.....

The crowd and the long queue before entering the Outdoor Theme Park

The Dermarians have just landed... in Genting Highlands !!

The cheerful faces waiting to enter the World Theme Park in Genting...

Kevin, Suhail and Daeng Dhariry enjoying in the "Flying Coaster"

Ready to enter the "Ghost House Coaster"...

The Dermarians at the "London Double Decker" bus....

This is the "cekik darah" Snow World entrance..
Our belongings had to be left outside to save RM100... and I had to be the security guard !!!

The price list for the photos taken inside the Snow World ......

The Cable cars and the Genting Hotel seen in the morning

On our way down in the late afternoon....

At last, we reached Genting Highlands, a popular holiday spot in Malaysia, this morning. The weather was cool as ever, some 16 degrees Celsius. The cable car ride was breathtaking.., adventurous and took some 20 minutes to reached the summit. Mind you, the cable car system is the longest in South East Asia, covering nearly 4 km in distance.....(Photos will be added later because I couldn't transfer the photos from my camera at the moment)

With a fee of RM35 (USD 10), we could enjoy the outdoor games and sports activities the whole day... Lots and lots of fun. It's sort of a Disneyland carbon copy. It never ends...
Apart from the outdoor activities, indoor outlets were a plenty. There is the casino (for foreigners only), video games, bowling, pools...oh..., what to say.... So many of them.. But, one outlet I would like to specially mention is the "Snow House".

Wooh.... what a letdown!! The snowhouse is just a disaster to visitors.... The entrance fee was too expensive (RM 17 per person). It's just not that. Visitors are not allowed to bring in anything!! Cameras, video cams, handphones, your handbags.... Visitors want to take pictures of their families in the snow house, for god sake!! Furthermore, you will be charged another RM1 to have your belongings kept in a locker...Ironically, there are staffs inside the premise who took pictures of visitors and charge an incredible price... RM 30 (USD 9) each set..
What the hack?? Come on Genting management!! It's a shame to visitors, both locals and foreigners. Yeeeeah.... it's a shame!!!
I feel sorry to all you visitors... It's just a shame......

Well, apart from the Snow House, everything else is excellent. The food stalls are fairly priced. A cup of coffee is RM5. The buffet lunch is RM25... So and so and so.... Try visiting Genting Highlands... You'll have fun....

FROM KUALA PERLIS...

They call it "The Ocean Glow"..., a popular place to dine, seen from afar.

sitting in the village style "endoi", in one of the stalls along the Kuala Perlis coastline.

The Perlis's "Pulau Batu Putih" situated along the Sungai Berembang-Kuala Perlis coastline.

My secret training ground where Marshamira, my athlete, trained to become the Malaysian U-15 champion in the 100m Hurdles in 1999.... This place used to be a beautiful beach in the 90's...

The only stretch of beach that is left in Perlis, located between Sungai Berembang and Sungai Baru.

Langkawi Island, as seen from the main land in Perlis.

A "submarine" seen parking at the coastline in Sungai Baru, near Kuala Perlis.....

Maybe you didn't notice these views in Kuala Perlis.... Well, here are some shots I took a few days ago along the coastline in Kuala Perlis. Enjoy the shots....
