APA PERANAN GURU MUZIK DI SEKOLAH??

Yes.. What's the function of having music teachers in school??
1. To teach music as a subject in the school curriculum. But to what level??
2. To form a choir group. So that there is one in the school to sing during official functions such as the speech day, the state competition or anything similar to that.
3. To form a music group. It depends on the school's need. It might be a brass band or a mini orchestra or both, or something similar...

So, in SMK Derma where music is one of the niche for being a cluster school, all three above are the job of the music teacher in the school. Plain simple...
I rest my case...

Have a nice day...

Oceans of Diamonds on Neptune and Uranus..

From The Sun:  Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
Easy to remember: My Very Excellent Mother Just Serve Us Nice Pizza (by Daeng Dhadyry)

Scientists have said that the outer planets of our solar system may have oceans of diamonds. According to ABC News, a new report has suggested that oceans of liquid diamond, filled with solid diamond icebergs, could be floating on Neptune and Uranus. The research is based on the first detailed measurements of the melting point of diamond. It found, diamond behaves like water during freezing and melting, with solid forms floating atop liquid forms. The surprising revelation gives scientists a new understanding about diamonds and some of the most distant planets in our solar system.
"Diamond is a relatively common material on Earth, but its melting point has never been measured," said Dr Jon Eggert of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. "You can't just raise the temperature and have it melt; you have to also go to high pressures, which makes it very difficult to measure the temperature," he added.
When diamond is heated to extreme temperatures it physically changes, from diamond to graphite. The graphite, and not the diamond, then melts into a liquid. The trick for the scientists was to heat the diamond up while simultaneously stopping it from transforming into graphite. Ultrahigh pressures, the kind of pressures found in huge gas giants like Neptune and Uranus are some of the places where ultrahigh temperatures and ultrahigh pressures exist.
Eggert and his colleagues placed a small, natural, clear diamond, about a tenth of a carat by weight and half a millimetre thick, and blasted it with lasers at ultrahigh pressures. The scientists liquefied the diamond at pressures 40 million times greater than what a person feels when standing at sea level on Earth. From there, they slowly reduced the temperature and pressure.
When the pressure dropped to about 11 million times the atmospheric pressure at sea level on Earth and the temperature dropped to about 50,000 degrees, solid chunks of diamond began to appear. The pressure kept dropping, but the temperature of the diamond remained the same, with more and more chunks of diamond forming. Then, the diamond did something unexpected. The chunks of diamond didn't sink. They floated and became microscopic diamond ice burgs floating in a tiny sea of liquid diamond.
"An ocean of diamond could help explain the orientation of the planet's magnetic field as well," said Eggert. Up to 10 percent of Uranus and Neptune is estimated to be made from carbon. A huge ocean of liquid diamond in the right place could deflect or tilt the magnetic field out of alignment with the rotation of the planet.

Lets prepare the next spaceship to Neptune and Uranus !!

CAVE OF DARKNESS (Gua Kelam)

In line with the coming of the students of Mahavajiravudh Songkhla School in February, I had to pay a visit to the location where we will be having the "Explorace" event. Where else..., at the Cave of Darkness (Gua Kelam in Malay), in Kaki Bukit, Perlis.
While scouting for a suitable location, we met a few ex-Dermarians on the other side of the cave.. What a coincidence!! They sure enjoy themselves.... Well..., the deserve to...., after all the hard work in school...
Have a nice day, guys !!!

The Entrance to the Camp site (outside cave)

Searching for a suitable camp site...with Ustaz Bob and Cikgu Hakimi, plus Kak Lily..

Entrance to the Cave of Darkness.....only RM1 (USD 0.30)

It's quite dark inside...The cave is 370m long and is the longest cave in South East Asia.

The other side of the cave...the spot for the explorace....

LIVERPOOL'S SAKE..., NOT BENITEZ...

It's written everywhere... SAVE LIVERPOOL !!!
Enough is enough..!!  For the sake of Liverpool, sack Benitez.. The club is going nowhere under him.. I really fail to understand why the Board of Directors do not take action on this issue... Why do you want to "kill" Liverpool? Don't you see the problem? Is it the money? I thought so.....

This current set of players is doomed!! Since Xabi Alonso left Liverpool, nothing is going right for the team.. There is no teamwork at all.. The players look like a bunch of school boys playing house football at the school field and the fat coach is Benitez !! The players are not combining well.. There is no respect to each other. Just imagine...in the recent FA Cup game, Benayoun had only the keeper to beat, Dirk Kyut was alone on the right with an open goal, and Benayoun chose to "give" the ball to the keeper!!! What sort of mindset is Benitez giving to the players??

Look Liverpool FC..., if you fail to fire Benitez, you stand to loose your fans... Not only in Britain, but from all over the world..., including  MALAYSIA....

BIG BOTTOMS are TOPS for HEALTH..

I am not joking...it's true!!! It came out in the papers yesterday...., NST, Thursday, January 14, 2010...page 28.

London:
Having extra weight on your behind, big hips and solid thighs "is good for you", British researchers said on Tuesday.
Carrying fats on the hips, thighs and behind had a range of health benefits and protected against diabetes and heart disease, expects at Oxford University said. "Fat around the hips and thighs is good for you but around the tummy is bad", said Dr Konstantinos Manolopoulos, one of the scientists behind the research which was published in the International Journal of Obesity.

A big bottom is much better than carrying fat around the waist, which tends to release more harmful fatty acids into the body, the research shows. Belly fats also releases molecules called cytokines which trigger inflammation - raising the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Fat carried on the thighs traps these harmful fatty acids and stops them from latching on to the liver and muscles and causing a range of health problems. Although fat around the thighs and backside tends to burn slower and be harder to shift, it can release beneficial hormones which protect the arteries and help blood sugar control, the research shows...

"The idea that body fat distribution is important to health has been known for some time," said Manolopoulos, a researcher at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
It is the shape that matters. As far as health is concerned, being "pear-shaped" is preferable to being "apple-shaped," he added.

So.... kudos for big bottoms !!!!
Have a nice day....

LIVERPOOL GOING NOWHERE with BENITEZ...

Losing 10 of the last 20 games...That's Benitez latest record!!
Implications:
1.   Benitez's tactics are not working anymore..
2.   Benitez have got no new ideas, sticking to the same old tricks.
3.   Benitez's line-up is no more feared by opponents.
4.   Benitez is no more a winner.
5.   Benitez is making Liverpool fans uneasy.
6.   Benitez is ready to be sacked!!!

Verdict: Sack Benitez !!!

YUNA: Ex-Student of SMK Derma

Yunalis Zarai...ex-student of SMK Derma, Kangar...

For the next two days, students of SMK Derma will be given free newspapers..., Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!
This is made possible by Unimap(Universiti Malaysia Perlis) and Utusan Malaysia, in conjunction with Perlis being the host of the FFVPM7 (Festival Filem dan Video Pelajar Malaysia ke-7). This is the first time Perlis play host... The festival begins tomorrow until Sunday...

While reading the free Kosmo, I came over the "Rencana Utama" section and on pages 17, 18 and 19, there is this article on Yuna, the new Malaysian artist who bagged the 2nd place in the recent "Juara Lagu" contest.... Page 19 gives her biodata and the first info mentioned that Yuna was a student of SMK Derma.... She took her SPM exams while schooling in SMK Derma..., probably in 2005...
Hmmm, should call her to perform in this year's Speech Day.. That would be great!!

Have a nice day....

MORE JUNIORS COMING...

To date, there are only 103 Form 1 (7th Grade) students in SMK Derma.. 43 of them have chosen to study in  boarding schools all over Malaysia last week, leaving a few empty chairs in Form 1 classes.
But next week, at least another 44 students who obtained 5As in last year UPSR will report duty as Dermarians, juniors, of course...
WELCOME  to SMK DERMA ....
Welcome Daeng Dhadyry !!!!

Have a nice day....

101% ATTENDANCE....

Ready to go..........

sempat tunjuk "peace sign" dulu......

The first section of the Cross Country track....

Fyna, Hani & Dayah came for practice, sir !!!.....

Some of my students... with the "Boss".........

Wooaaaaah..., today's cross country practice session was just like the Finals !!! That's the spirit that we want!!
It was the Blues and the Reds' turn today and they did not disappoint.. Almost all of them came, plus a few guys from yesterday's group did the practice round...and that comes to a 101% attendance !!
Started late at 4.30pm, the girls shot off first. More than 300 of them. 10 minutes after that, it was the boys...
Hardly 20 minutes after they started, the first girl came in... and she was from the REDs (Rumah Perlis), followed by 4 girls from the BLUES (Rumah Sekolah).. The girls completed 2.7km.
7 minutes after the first girl finished the run, the first boy came in.., from the BLUES (Rumah Sekolah), followed by 2 REDS and 6 BLUES...
Within 20 minutes after that, everybody was in..... That was 5.15pm !!
I guess these students are reading my blogs and Facebook... I thought of punishing students who play truant to these sports practices... But now, I take back my words... Most of them are following the activities and that save the day!
Congrates Dermarians for being obedient !!! Take a rest tomorrow afternoon and see ye on Thursday at 4.00pm...
Have a nice day....
