Greetings from Nakhon Si Thammarat... Day 1

Date: 2nd February 2011 (Wednesday).
Expedition: From Kangar to Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Distance: 301 km.
Group: 10 bikers (kap chai)

9.30am: Took off from Kangar's Petronas Oil (gas) kiosk, at Jalan Raja Syed Alwi. 10 bikes made the trip, supposedly to Koh Samui, Thailand.
10.00am: Reached Padang Besar (Malaysia) for breakfast. Distance traveled - 40 km.
10.45am: Padang Besa (Thailand) for declaration of Passport and vehicle.
11.15am: Custom's clearance and off for journey into Thailand.
12.45pm: Stopover for lunch at Chekkar Restaurant on the way to Songkhla. Distance traveled - 59 km.
This restaurant served good dishes but is quite expensive. We just had a simple lunch (white rice, seafood tomyam and scrambled eggs) and was charged 1045 Baht for 9 person, averaging RM12 per pax. That's considered expensive in Thailand.
1.25pm: Off to Songkhla.
2.00pm: Crossed Ko Yo bridge over the salt water lake.
on the way to Nakhon Si Thammarat
3.30pm: Stopover for gas refill and for some refreshments. Distance traveled - 102 km.
4.00pm: By-passed Ranot town and strolled along the coastal road, the South China Sea on the right.
the bridge to Nakhon Si Thammarat..
6.15pm: Reached Nakhon Si Thammarat, the old capital of Thailand... Distance traveled - 100 km.
7.00pm: Checked-in at the GRAND PARK hotel.
the lobby of the Grand Park Hotel in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The hotel is cheap, 600 Baht (RM60) per night. Wireless internet is available but you have to bring your own laptop or netbook.
9.45pm: We went out for dinner nearby... at the BAN BAO restaurant. We had chicken rice and it cost 30 Baht (RM3) per plate. That's cheap and it was nice, especially the soup.
The Ban Bao restaurant, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
We bought some fruits on the way back. Very cheap...RM1 per pack.

We called it a day at 12.00 midnight...
To be continued.......
